Metallotexnion

A workshop for handmade metal structures in Alexandroupoli, Greece, since 1999. Railings, doors, stairs, canopies, lights, furniture. Its site was static, built on a 2016 template, with every project in its own HTML file. The client asked for a full copy of the current one: same sections, same order, same images, same texts. We rebuilt it on WordPress with our own theme, so that each project is an entry with photos and categories. It went live on metallotexnion.gr 8 days after the offer was accepted. Underneath the same look, the speed, the legal pages, the cookie consent and the old addresses changed.

Measurable results

Before After
Performance (PageSpeed, mobile)/100, median of three runs 67 90
LCP, time to the largest element (mobile)median of three runs 6,6 s 3,2 s
Accessibility (PageSpeed, mobile)/100, in all three runs 71 93
SEO (PageSpeed, mobile)/100, in all three runs 91 100
Best practices (PageSpeed, mobile)/100, in all three runs 74 100

Both measurements were made with Google PageSpeed Insights (API), mobile, in the same way: one run warms the cache and does not count, then the median of three runs. The "before" is the old site on 23/09/2026, over http because its https certificate had expired, on the old server. The "after" is the live new site on 03/10/2026, over https, on our own server. So the server is part of the difference too. In the "after", one of the three runs gave performance 82 and LCP 3.5 s. The two measurements were made on different days and the Lighthouse version inside PageSpeed may have changed. Page weight did not change materially.

What we did

Results

  • 01The 65 projects that have a page came across with the same text word for word and the same number of photos, checked one by one. In total 111 projects in 9 categories and 490 photos. The sentences of the homepage and of the reviews are there verbatim
  • 02On the old site, a project's photos showed when it opened from the homepage, in a side panel. When the project page opened directly, for example from a Google result or a shared link, the images asked for the wrong path and returned 404: 14 of 14 in one project, 8 of 8 in another. On the new site every project has its own address and opens correctly, directly as well
  • 03Before the DNS change, the old site was copied with a real browser: 67 pages, 538 media files, 60 MB, 604 addresses in total. The 65 old project pages (html_slides/…) and index.html redirect with a 301 (permanent redirect) to the new address. Links and Google results pointing to them are not lost. www and http also lead with a 301 to https://metallotexnion.gr
  • 04The old site loaded 8 third-party services before asking the visitor. The new one loads none before consent. The cookie dialog belongs to the theme and the choice expires after 6 months, as the policy says. Google Analytics loads only if the visitor accepts "Statistics". In the check on the temporary site, with no choice made and after Reject, no request went to Google. The map also loads only after consent. Legal texts and the business details in the footer were added
  • 05On PageSpeed Insights (mobile, median of three runs) performance went from 67 to 90 and LCP, the time until the largest element of the page, dropped from 6.6 s to 3.2 s. Page weight stayed about the same, 2.53 MB and 2.48 MB. Accessibility went 71 → 93, SEO 91 → 100 and best practices 74 → 100
  • 06The site was built and checked at a temporary address, without touching the old one. Before the switch we took copies of the database and the settings and issued the certificate for the final name. In the browser check at 4 screen sizes: 0 errors, 111 of 111 project tiles, no broken image. After the DNS change the check ran again with the real name, and the sitemap was submitted to Search Console
